Direct Appeals and Habeas Corpus
A direct appeal is limited to issues from trial. A direct appeal is your first chance to attack your conviction. In a direct appeal, you can raise errors that occurred during trial.
You may also pursue a habeas corpus review to raise issues of new evidence or information not known and discoverable at the time of trial. You may argue that a change in law by the legislature or new interpretations of law by higher courts constitutes grounds for relief.
Our firm has handled criminal appeals in a wide range of criminal cases, including murder, national security, drug crimes, sex crimes, tax evasion, violent crimes, death penalty cases, prostitution rings, asset forfeiture, assault and money laundering. We have the ability to effectively handle any criminal appeal in Federal or State court. Whereas some criminal defense firms have limited knowledge of Federal cases, we have extensive experience with Federal charges in addition to State charges.
